EXT. PUBLIC LIBRARY, GARDEN - DAY

A balding, tall octogenarian man with a cane slowly strolls in the park. He is slim, has a big nose, and has a port-wine stain on his upper forehead.

ALICE seems to be following him, observing him while hiding behind trees and other objects, maintaining the distance but creeping slowly towards him.

He disappears behind a tree. ALICE, still trying to be inconspicuous, seats by a wall.

She gets an ortholinear, DIY mechanical keyboard out of her bag and plugs it into a tablet. It's apparent now that she wasn't following the old man, but just examining the environment a bit, so she could be sure that she wouldn't be bothered.

Out of the tree where the old man disappeared, an old lady appears now. We can't see her face well. She's clearly homeless and —more subtly— a drug addict. ALICE keeps doing stuff on her tablet —mostly terminal stuff.

The OLD LADY stands in front of Alice. Alice doesn't even acknowledge her presence. In a way, it's as if Alice is both extremely familiar with and disinterested in the old lady.

The OLD LADY gets a sweater out of her woven handbag as she gets even closer to ALICE. ALICE looks at her with an emotionless face. The OLD LADY puts the sweater over ALICE in an awkward way.

ALICE doesn’t seem to react to this.

OLD LADY

Hi, I'm Amy.

ALICE doesn't show much predisposition towards a conversation.

ALICE

(avoiding eye contact)

I'm Alice.

AMY

Alice. It's going to get cold and lonely.

ALICE reacts with a fractured smirk while continuing her work.

The OLD LADY stares at ALICE. Then she walks away.

ALICE has a moment of doubt. It appears that her whole goal had been shattered through self-reflection. Suddenly, she loses interest on what she's doing. Stares blankly into infinity.

ALICE

(voice off)

I'm not a hacker...
